Flower vase- Cone painting

CONE PAINTING ON FLOWER VASE

Art attack strikes.....yet again !

This time it was time to practice a new form of art- " WARLI WITH CONE PAINTING"

Steps to follow are pretty easy........

Get hold of a curvy beautiful flower vase. This can be made out of  clay, ceramic or even terracotta. I found mine with a potter nearby.

Check it out-

The next step is to put a primer coat evenly on the surface of the pot. Alternatively, you can also use white enamel paint. Check out the pic below-

The first vase is coated with primer and the other one with white enamel paint. White enamel paint gives a more glossy look.

NEXT....paint it with your favorite shade of colour. Preferably use enamel paint. I have used two different shades on two different pots here. Another trick is to use two different shades on the same pot.

Once you have painted it upside down. Put it straight and paint the mouth of the pot evenly.
Next and very important step is to apply a coat of varnish. You may apply a second coat once the earlier one dries.

Below is the final look you get once all the coats of paints stand dry. This process is the most time consuming and takes around one week to finish. Make sure you allow sufficient time to dry so as to avoid any patches during the next step of cone painting.

Use the ceramic cones for cone painting. They are readily available in the market or can be prepared by mixing ceramic powder, glue, fevicol and some water.

Here's how they look-

For this pot which is going to be a gift to a newly wed, I have chosen bright red colour. I have used the "WARLI ART" covered in my post earlier in this blog.

Pic below depicts a "Dancing Peacock" and the warli tribes dancing around in a circle covering the whole pot.

Pic below depicts the "Lord Ganesha". This has been painted on the second side of the pot.

Pic below depicts the "Dancing Tribes" from warli. This is on the third side of the pot.

Pic below depicts tribes holding musical instruments in their hands. This is on the fourth side of the pot.

With four different patterns on each side I have ensured that the user can place it in four different ways and this can avoid monotony.

Pic below clearly shows how a simple earthen flower vase can be painted and worked upon to reveal the beautiful Warli Art.
